Sweet Shots Absinthe Hard Candy - 7-Piece Box
Description
Absinthe, a drink commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy), rose to notoriety in late 19th century France. It was particularly popular with Parisian artists and writers, and was linked quite closely to bohemian culture, making the beverage heavily opposed by the more socially conservative members of society. In the early 20th century, naysayers attempted to convince consumers the drink was a hallucinogen that could cause public disorder and violent crimes; thus, it developed a controversial reputation and was banned in at least eight countries, including Switzerland, France, and the US. Nonetheless, it was a favored drink of influential artists such as Ernest Hemingway, Charles Baudelaire, Paul Verlaine, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, and Erik Satie. Interestingly enough, most countries did not lift the ban on Absinthe until almost a century later -- the US ban wasn’t lifted until 2007, and the French until 2011!
These Absinthe Sweet Shots won’t cause hallucinations or public disorder, but experiencing the unique anise-flavored spirit in mouthwatering hard candy pieces will certainly drive your taste buds wild! In rich green colors (like the original la fée vert!), these old fashion candies are a fun novelty item for theme parties and gifts.
